Hugger Mugger Cotton Yoga Rug

Minimalist Mat for the Simple Yogi

The Hugger Mugger 100% cotton yoga rug is simple but effective.  It's made in India and measures 74" x 28". Practice rugs are commonly used in Indian ashrams and yoga schools and are good for Ashtanga, Hatha and hot yoga practices. It can be folded and used as a meditation cushion. These rugs use a natural dye, so there are no toxic chemicals or smells that are produced from this rug.

The yoga rug feels super natural to practice on. It readily absorbs sweat and moisture. It's soft against your skin and your feet won't get caught up on it during Ashtanga vinyasas.  With that being said, there isn't much padding, so some may find it a rough to practice on concrete or hard wood floors.  Also this rug lacks any kind of stickiness to bind it to the floor, so you must be mindful to prevent any bunching catching of the fabric on your hands and feet. Sprinkling or spraying with water before your class can help it stick to the floor a bit.

This rug is fairly unique in that it can be washed, either by hand or in a washing machine. It's the kind of thing that gets better with time, the more you use it, the softer and more broken in it gets. This mat is built tough and should be with you for many, many years of consistent practice.

Yoga rugs are for the serious yoga practitioner. Because they aren't as sticky you must engage your core and joint muscles more to stay in poses. It could be said that it doesn't "assist" your body in holding poses like modern mats do and forces you to yoga the old-fashioned way, by earning every bit.

Pros: Doubles as meditation cushion, All-natural construction, get better with age, machine washable.

Cons: May slide on wood floors, Very little cushion on hard surfaces, Doesn't "assist" you in holding poses like modern mats.
